Harvard Beets

6-10 medium beets
½ cup sugar
½ cup vinegar
½ tablespoon cornstarch
butter

Boil beets in salted water until tender, sliced beets, add sauce made as follows: Mix sugar and cornstarch. Add slowly vinegar and boil few moments. Add beats and let stand on back of stove ½ hour. Just before serving add butter (about 2 tablespoon).
