Vanilla Ice Cream

2 quarts measurement
2 eggs
½ cup sugar
2 teaspoon vanilla
3 cup cream
1 cup milk

or
Scant 1 quart measurement
1 egg
1/3 cup sugar
1½ teaspoon vanilla
2 cup cream
2/3 cup milk

Beat egg and sugar until blended. Pour in top of double boiler. Stir in milk. Cook and stir over boiling water until thickens. Stir in whipping cream and vanilla. Freeze until firm.
